Leadership Series Trainer Karen Hildt is a practicing attorney with close to 20 years experience in estate planning, wills and trusts. During her legal career she has served as both a judge, deputy prosecuting attorney and court commissioner. She has served in the nonprofit sector as Executive Director of the Seattle Arts Commission and Regional Coordinator for the National Endowment for the Arts. Her volunteer service includes board positions with Peninsula College and Centrum in Port Townsend, WA; Mariner Bank in Jefferson County, WA and One Reel and Richard Hugo House in Seattle. She was a member of the Washington State Bar Association Rules of Professional Conduct Committee and has received the State of Washington Governor's Award for Achievement in the Arts.
NPower Training Series Lindsay Bealko has been a leading contributor to the field of nonprofit technology training for over five years, helping nonprofit staff plan for technology, build software skills and use technology to streamline operations. A dynamic trainer dedicated to empowering nonprofits to use technology to increase the reach and impact of their work, Lindsay consistently impresses audiences with her ability to make topics such as online fundraising, budgeting for technology and technology planning relevant, engaging and immediately useful. Lindsay has delivered strategic technology workshops to over 600 nonprofit managers and directors in communities throughout the United States.
As NPower's National Training Manager, Lindsay is responsible for supporting 12 other NPower training programs around the country by promoting knowledge-sharing and best practices among them. A talented curriculum designer, Lindsay also develops new strategic workshops for use across the NPower Network and seeks out opportunities to bring new, high-quality technology training opportunities to nonprofits nationwide.
Lindsay received her Bachelor's of Science in Education with a concentration in Communication Sciences and Technology Education from the University of Vermont. Lindsay's exceptional ability to create workshop experiences where participants learn the skill they need stems from her nonprofit work history, her knowledge of adult education and her hands-on experience positioning hundreds of nonprofits for technological success!
Special Briefing Trainer Since September 1996, Dr. Chait has been a Professor at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. From 1985 until then, he was a Professor at the University of Maryland. Previously, Chait was the Mandel Professor of Nonprofit Management at Case Western Reserve University and Associate Provost of Penn State University.
Over the past 20 years, Professor Chait's research has focused on trusteeship and governance of nonprofit organizations. He has co-authored three books on the subject including: Governance as Leadership: Reframing the Work of Nonprofit Boards (Wiley, 2004) Improving the Performance of Governing Boards (Oryx Press, 1996) and The Effective Board of Trustees (Oryx Press, 1991). He also co-authored two articles in the Harvard Business Review: "The New Work of Nonprofit Boards," (September/October, 1996) and "Charting the Territory of Nonprofit Boards" (January/February 1989).
Dr. Chait is a member of the Board of Directors of BoardSource (formerly the National Center for Nonprofit Boards), a member of the executive committee of the Wheaton College Board of Trustees in Massachusetts. He was, for nine years, a trustee and member of the executive committee of the governing board of Goucher College, and served as chairman of the Board of Directors of the American Association for Higher Education. He consults widely on governance with the boards of trustees of colleges, schools and arts organizations. In 2004, he received an award from the President of Harvard as one of the University's outstanding teachers.
