Class 1: The Essentials of Planned Giving

Are you a savvy development director or CEO with an established annual individual giving program and you think you’re ready for more? Have you heard about planned giving, but you’re not quite sure what it is or how to get started? Do you fear you just don’t have the time? In this class you will learn:

  • The basics of planned giving
  • How planned giving is an essential part of any sophisticated development plan
  • Types of planned gifts, and which ones to focus on first
  • How endowments fit in with planned giving

When you have completed this class, you will recognize the growing importance of planned giving in nonprofit fund development; understand the various types of planned giving programs; and identify which ones might be right for your organization.

Class 2: Planned Giving – Get your organization ready

Starting a planned giving program is not difficult, but it is important to get your organization internally ready to accept gifts. In this class you will learn:

  • A simple way to assess institutional readiness for planned giving
  • The importance of ensuring board and CEO support before beginning a planned giving program
  • How to update your internal policies to accommodate planned gifts
  • How to identify potential donors
  • The importance of writing a simple plan to guide your organization as it implements a planned giving program

When you have completed this class, you will be able to decide if this is the right time for your organization to institute planned giving or endowment strategies and you will have a roadmap for getting your organization ready. 

Class 3: Planned Giving – Marketing your planned giving program

Are you wary of starting a planned giving program because you think it’s going to be too complex? Fear not! There are simple but effective ways to begin. In this class you will learn:

  • Simple things that anyone can do to market a planned giving program
  • Words to use and avoid when communicating about planned giving
  • The importance of stewarding your planned givers, and tips for doing it well

When you have completed this class, you will have a checklist of actions, from simple to advanced, that you can enact to launch your planned giving program and get your donors excited to support your cause for the future.
