Just as Alaskans will receive their Permanent Fund Dividend checks in their bank accounts today, more than 400 nonprofit organizations will be receiving their donations from the 2012 Pick. Click. Give. campaign by the end of October.

Alaskans gave in record numbers this year, according to data provided by the Permanent Fund Dividend Division of the Alaska State Department of Revenue. As of April 1, 2012, the close of the regular three-month filing period for the annual PFD, over 23,000 individuals had pledged more than 37,000 gifts totaling more than $2,200,000.

“The impact of donations from Pick. Click. Give. ripples through communities in many ways,” said Debbie Bitney, Director of the Permanent Fund Division. “More hungry families and children can be fed, more animals can be rescued, public broadcasting stations can enhance their service, more abused women and their children can be sheltered. There’s a long list causes that are being served through the generosity of Alaskans who give through Pick. Click. Give.”

Top recipients of gifts this year were Bean’s Café, KSKA/KAKM/APRN, Food Bank of Alaska, and Alaska Dog and Puppy Rescue.

A list of participating organizations in the 2012 campaign and the amount each received can be found by clicking here. The totals represent figures compiled at the end of the regular filing period. Final totals will be available later this month but are not expected to vary to any great extent from those announced in the spring.

The 2012 campaign went over its goal by $200,000 and represented an increase of nearly 50 percent over the 2011 total.

In 2011, 19,000 Alaskans raised $1.5 million for nonprofits, community foundations and the University of Alaska campuses through Pick. Click. Give. In 2010, 9,500 Alaskans donated a total of $927,000 and in 2009, the program’s first year, 5,500 people gave $545,000.
