Job Description
General Functions:
The Grant Writer I/ Grant Writer II coordinates and manages multiple grant writing and planning projects to secure resources that carry out CITC's mission. This position works collaboratively with the VP of Strategy and Development, Senior Director of Development, Compliance & Finance, Human Resources, and program staff to promote operations through strategic funding acquisition. Working in partnership with our people, the Grant Writer I /Grant Writer II develops opportunities that fulfill our endless potential by identifying, researching, and securing funding streams aligned with organizational goals. In addition, this position provides insight and support to the organizational grant process.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Grant Writer I
- Identify, research, and screen potential funding sources, including government, corporate, and foundation opportunities.
- Review potential funding opportunities for alignment with CITC's Mission, Sustainability Plan, and organizational goals.
- Collaborate with department directors to define funding needs and develop comprehensive grant strategies.
- Write comprehensive grant proposals to secure new funding streams for programs and services.
- Coordinate and collect information from program staff and external sources as needed for grant proposals.
- Coordinate preparation, assembly, and timely delivery of grant proposals according to funder requirements.
- Assist with relevant project development activities to support grant applications and program implementation.
- Develop and maintain relationships with funders to enhance grant success rates and sustainability.
- Provide guidance and support to Grant Writer/Project Specialist I staff on proposal development.
- Review and edit grant proposals for quality, compliance, and alignment with funder requirements.
- Develop strategic grant acquisition plans aligned with organizational goals and funding priorities.
- Manage high-value and complex federal grant proposals requiring extensive coordination and compliance.
- Perform all related duties as needed and assigned.
Grant Writer II
- Perform all duties and responsibilities of Grant Writer I with an advanced level of proficiency.
- Lead complex grant writing projects requiring coordination across multiple departments and stakeholders.
- Support the design and execution of the annual grants calendar, identifying, prioritizing, and tracking foundation, corporate, and government funding opportunities aligned with organizational priorities and budget needs.
- Maintain a master grants calendar and tracking system, ensuring all deadlines, submission requirements, and reporting obligations are met on time and in full.
- Review, edit, and strengthen proposals and reports drafted by other team members, providing constructive feedback that builds staff capacity and maintains a consistent organizational voice.
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date records of proposals, awards, denials, and reporting requirements in the organization's donor database or grants management system.
- Track and report on grant program performance, including submission volume, award rates, revenue secured, and pipeline projections, for leadership and board audiences.
- Represent CITC at funder meetings and cultivate strategic partnerships to expand funding opportunities.
Job Specifications:
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills with expert knowledge of grammar, vocabulary, spelling, and proofreading.
- Demonstrated ability to author a variety of writing assignments conforming to prescribed style and format requirements.
- Ability to balance CITC's style and self-representation with funder guidelines, including state and federal rules.
- Strong understanding of program budget development, with the ability to coordinate with Compliance and Finance departments to align funder requirements with organizational standards.
- Excellent public contact and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact professionally with diverse stakeholders.
- Strong decision-making abilities with the capacity to exercise good judgment under pressure.
- Ability to work strategically, both independently and as a project team lead, collaborating laterally and with senior personnel while navigating individual work styles and supervisory protocols.
- Excellent project management and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and deliver work subject to strict deadlines.
- Ability to find, work with, and accurately cite a wide range of detailed information and data, such as census, crime and victim, health and epidemiology, justice, education, and workforce/economic data, at a statewide, regional, municipal, or tribe-specific level.
- Working knowledge of the grant writer code of ethics as well as CITC policies and procedures.
- Ability to work with staff to develop logic models, evidence-based rationale, timelines, and staffing plans, and to articulate goals, objectives, outcomes, outputs, and performance measures.
- High degree of sensitivity and discretion regarding confidential information.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the social, health, educational, training, and cultural needs of the Alaska Native and American Indian community.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Employment is contingent upon completion of a satisfactory state and federal fingerprint criminal background check.
Grant Writer I
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field. Relevant experience may substitute for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.
- One (1) to three (3) years of grant writing experience.
Grant Writer II
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field. Relevant experience may substitute for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.
- Four (4) or more years of progressive grant writing experience.

- Advanced/Master's degree and/or professional certifications.
Physical Requirements:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
- May require prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and consistently working on a computer with repetitive motion.
- The need to occasionally move around the office to access filing cabinets, storage cabinets, and office equipment may be necessary.
- Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally by utilizing proper lifting techniques and working in a safe manner.
