I’m in Seward today and wow, when it’s sunny in Seward there are not many more places as beautiful – except for the rest of Alaska on a sunny day.

A lot has happened since my last blog entry. Last week I became a “shining star” according to Congregation Beth Shalom and was most honored by the great friends in attendance and by others who spoke.

Most important, I was able to thank my Alaskan staff and board members for their efforts to help me look good. And most important of all, I got to thank my family for helping me shine.

I left that night for Las Vegas to spend time with an Alaska Native group that I have had the privilege to work with for five years. It was there, and with the memory of the earlier event, that I identified the newest smidgen of insight. It was how important partnerships are.

Partnerships are one of the Foraker Elements of Sustainability.

This group in Vegas heard that message and established positive relationships with other groups in their community and finally accomplished a 30-year goal that had seemed elusive.

By putting aside long standing rivalries, finding others to help, and accepting that we need others to succeed (and of course they need us), we can make more happen.
