Since opening our doors almost 20 years ago, Foraker has worked hard to keep the fees for our services as low as possible. As a nonprofit ourselves, we understand the need to operate efficiently, within the budget we set each year.

A significant and growing expense for us is the fee we must pay for every credit card transaction. These fees run into many thousands of dollars each year. To help meet this expense, beginning January 1 we will institute a 3% service charge for all credit card transactions, including payments for classes, annual Partner dues, and consulting services.

We appreciate your understanding as we institute this policy.

The Quiet Spaces of Leadership

December can be a mad dash – a frenzy to the finish line of the year. The intensity of holiday pressures to buy, consume, and engage are often compounded by the daily routines and year-end work pressures that for many already feel overwhelming. So rather than reminding you of your to-do list and encouraging the rush to the end of the year, I thought we could all use a reminder of what the quieter side of leadership looks like. Because sometimes the most powerful thing you can do is to stop – slow down – and reflect.

THANKS TO BP — FOR SUPPORTING FORAKER AND THE SECTOR

We began our formal relationship with BP even before we opened the doors at Foraker. BP was a founding supporter and one of our most loyal, generous, and forward-thinking partners. We are grateful for the many ways BP, its executives, and its employees have shown trust in us and the nonprofit sector.

Over the 20 years BP has been our partner, the company has donated over $1 million to Foraker allowing us to grow and accomplish our mission of strengthening Alaska nonprofits. BP helped establish and continues to support our Catalyst for Nonprofit Excellence program, which has helped 135 organizational leaders become stronger, more self-aware leaders.

BP’s generosity enables us to offer affordable access to services, strengthen collaborative efforts to tackle Alaska’s challenges, and maximize training and education to support missions across the state. As an added contribution, seven senior leaders of BP Alaska have served on Foraker’s boards, including two of our last four presidents.

We were thrilled to honor BP last week through a gift to President Janet Weiss from us and from the sector. Thank you, to Janet and BP. We will miss you but will always remember you through your many gifts that make Alaska a better place for all of us.

Come to one or all of our conversations. Board, staff, and volunteers are welcome.

Our first conversation will take place on Thursday, December 19, from 10:00-11:00 am. You can join by using this zoom link:  https://zoom.us/j/494898737
