Vice President of the Board Job Description

Purpose:

To maintain leadership continuity by performing the duties of the board president in his or her absence.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Attend all board meetings
  • Understand the organization and the board president’s duties
  • Be prepared to perform the board president’s duties when asked
  • Serve on the executive committee (if one exists)
  • Chair at least one standing committee
  • Act as an advisor to the board president
  • Develop a relationship with the CEO/ED and board president
  • Carry out special assignments from the board president
