ANCHORAGE, April 1, 2011 — Pledge data at the close of the 2011 Permanent Fund Dividend (PFD) filing period show 18,726 Alaskans made 27,829 charitable gifts to Alaska nonprofits during the 90 day campaign. The total pledged amount as of midnight March 31 was $1,570,900. These data show that 3.4 percent of Alaskans who filed online for their PFDs took advantage of the opportunity to support the causes they care about in their communities. “Alaskans are seeing the dividend in a different light,” said Jordan Marshall, special projects manager with Rasmuson Foundation. “Increasingly, the dividend is being seen as a way to strengthen our communities. Below are highlights of major changes taking effect for the 2012 application cycle: Reduction of paperwork: Fewer documents and fewer requirements are necessary to file. These are covered in the application. Please read it carefully. Board membership: Previously, all board members of applying organizations were required to be Alaska residents. A change in the law this year now allows that the majority of board members (or more than 50%) must be Alaska residents for the organization to apply. 990 compliance: The law is now compatible with the IRS requirement that organizations that are not required to file a 990 every year will not be required to submit that form with their Pick.Click.Give. application. Below are highlights of major changes to the law taking effect for the 2012 application cycle: New fee: This year marks the end of the subsidized support that was available during the three-year pilot for Pick.Click.Give. The new fee was established by the legislature and assures that administrative costs are covered. This means that every dollar donated by Alaskans goes directly to supporting the missions of the organizations they select. The fee will be $250 and is non-refundable.
